David Alaba’s contract will end in June 2021 and Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has announced publicly that Bayern will not be renewing the defender's contract any further.
The Austrian defender who is still 27 has been playing for the Bavarian giants since 2010. Alaba is one of the most versatile players in the world today.
Alaba has made over 350 appearances for Bayern Munich winning 20 odd titles for the German Champions. He has won 9 Bundesliga titles and the UEFA Champions League twice in 2013 and 2020. He was voted Austrian Footballer of the Year 6 consecutive times from 2011 to 2016. Given the experience, versatility and quality of a player like Alaba, it is surprising to see that Bayern Munich are willing to let him go on a free transfer.
Many European giants have been linked with the 27 year old Austrian defender, but Pirlo’s Juventus lead the race as they are considering to sign Alaba in January for a transfer fee.
If Juventus pursue further, they are likely to face a strong challenge from the English Champions Liverpool as they are desperately looking to steady their defence after Van Djik and Joe Gomez’s long term injuries.
Real Madrid, Manchester City and PSG have also been heavily linked with the 27 year old Austrian defender.
David Alaba can play as a centre back, a left-back and is also equally capable of playing as a midfielder. It also seems like Alaba has been playing for ages at Bayern Munich. It would be interesting to see if Juventus bag this highly sought after defender.
