Who is Patson Daka?
Patson Daka is a Zambian forward who has 12 goals in 10 matches so far playing for Austrian team RB Salzburg. The Zambian forward signed a five year deal with RB Salzburg and was initially assigned to the youth wing. He helped the team win the UEFA Youth League scoring 2 goals in 2 games.
Daka made his senior team debut for Salzburg in 2017 and has helped the club to qualify for the 2020-2021 UEFA Champions League.
Comparisons with Haaland
Erling Haaland burst onto the world football last season, when he scored an audacious number of goals in the champions league. With his move to Borussia Dortmund in January, much of the goal-scoring responsibilities fell on the shoulders of the Zambian forward.
In the 2019-20 season, Daka scored an impressive 27 goals in 45 matches, which becomes more impressive considering that he had to share the limelight for half of the year.
Daka’s next challenge
In his next match, Patson Daka has to face a European Giant, Athletico Madrid. Considering his goal-scoring form, the Argentine coach Diego Simeone will have to come up with a plan to stop the Zambian from scoring.
With the Los Colchoneros losing their last fixture 4-0 to Bayern Munich, the Madrid side must be low on confidence and hence the stage is set for Daka to showcase his scoring prowess.
The start to the 2020-21 season for Daka has not been much different to how Haaland had sprung into life last year. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see the Zambian follow the career path of his former teammate and end up with a European giant.
