After combing a goal against Burnley Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have combined for 29 premier leagues. Which is only 2nd to Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard combining 36.
Tottenham Hotspur seems to have found the best of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in perfect fashion and at the perfect time. With one of the most successful football managers of all time, Jose Mourinho at the helm of Tottenham’s head coach; the striking partners will be looking to explode and collect silverware after many years.
Why they are the best now?
With 8 goals in only 6 matches Son Heung-min is currently the top scorer of Premier League. Kane has been involved in 13 goals of Tottenham after six matches in Premier League which is most ever by any player at this stage. He already scored 10 times this season and assisted 8 times in all competitions. Harry Kane is running the show and flourishing under Jose Mourinho.
Jose Mourinho effect?
In the Amazon Prime documentary “All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur” Jose Mourinho was seen confronting Harry Kane that he is one of the best players in Europe. But he is not living up to full potential. Jose believes he can keep up with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo if Kane wishes to. Despite losing Harry Kane to injury for the better part of Premier League last season, Kane delivered a good performance post lockdown. He was pumped up for this new season. His performance speaks volumes now. He found the best version of himself from 2016-17 season.
New Chemistry? Shades of Real Madrid?
Son fits in the Mourinho project perfectly. Jose believes in a fast-paced vertical play of football with pacey wingers who can initiate a counter-attack. With Harry Kane dropping deep and making the play, he used Son inside the box very well. Son used to be the creator and Harry Kane the finisher under Mauricio Pochettino, the former Tottenham boss. But Jose decided to drop Harry Kane in the center. With the likes of Eric Lamella and Lucas Moura on the right-wing, Kane used his experience and chemistry with them to connect in the midfield and create chances.
With the new signing Gareth Bale, Tottenham will be looking for Son and Bale’s pace to dominate teams in a counterattack. This is something similar to Jose’s Real Madrid side back in 2011-12. He used pacey wingers like Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil with deep-lying forwards like Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema.
Son and Harry Kane, their chemistry is good. They understand each other. Mourinho tweaked their positional play and used that old front three to get better results. Tottenham is playing to exploit space and using their physicality to win ground and ariel duel in the middle.
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min will be excited about this new project and we will be looking forward to winning more.
