Real Madrid wins the first El Classico of La Liga Santander season 2020-21 against Barcelona at the Camp Nou by 1:3. Fede Valverde (5’), Ansu Fati (8’), Ramos (63’P) and Luka Modric (90’) were the goal scorers of an exciting fixture on matchday 6. Real Madrid goes top of the table with 13 points and Barcelona sits at the 10th position with 7 points. It is only matchday 6 but after coming from a difficult weekend Madrid was the better team and they go deservedly top of the table.

 

Interesting Stats

-        Zidane still remains unbeaten at Camp Nou, home of Barcelona as manager.

-        Leo Messi still without a goal or an assist since 2018 in El Classico.

-        Ansu Fati becomes the youngest goalscorer in El Classico history.

 

Match Analysis

Saturday matchday didn’t disappoint us. Through it was regarded as the Crisis Classico after both teams losing to their previous opponent in Laliga. The game started at an emphatic pace. Barcelona pressed high but Real Madrid resisted. With beautiful waited through ball from Karim Benzema finished by Fede Valverde gave Real the early lead. Barca reacted immediately. Jordi Alba who was returning from injury made a cleaver run and assisted Ansu Fati to equalize making Ansu the youngest scorer in El Classico history. Leo Messi created half chances but he was mostly contained. Benzema dropped deep after the equalizer and Real stood back and increased possession. Nacho was substituted by Lucas Vasquez in the first half itself due to some discomfort. Real Madrid won the possession battle at half time, an unusual feat at camp Nou. Barca came back very strongly in the 2nd half. They almost equalized with a peach of a cross from Ansu to Coutinho. In the 62nd minute, a clumsy shirt pulls on Ramos by Langlet drawn a Penalty, converted calmy by Ramos. After that Real took the control of the match. They installed Luka Modric to control the game. B Barcelona decided to throw all cards at hand. They switched to 4-2-4 with Ousmane Dembele, Martin Braithwaite, Antoine Griezmann, and Francisco  Trincao upfront. But their gamble didn’t pay off. Their midfield created a hole with only Messi and Coutinho in the field. Rodrygo won the ball in the box and assisted Luka Modric for the 3rd goal of Real which sealed the match at 90 minutes.

 

Bright Performances

For Barcelona Serginio Dest stood out with an absolutely brilliant performance. He worked hard defensively and almost neutralized Mendy and Vinicius. He was brilliant in attack also. Tony Kross for Real Madrid proved to the pivot for both offense and defense for Madrid. He almost assisted Benzema only to be stopped by Neto. Ramos named the official MOTM for his defensive work and an ice-cold Penalty. Ansu Fati was the best player for Barcelona. He scored and was the leading threat at Real Madrid Box.
